Scouting provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people, both boys and girls, aged 6-25 across the UK. Scouting is also global and is represented by over 28 million members in 216 countries—that’s more representation in more countries than many globally-recognised brands !!. Scouting aims to provide personal development for young people, promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual and helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are 'learning by doing’, when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. Scouting has a Law and a Promise at it’s foundation, which applies in every country. We are open to all faiths, and Scouting takes account for the varying religious obligations of our members while upholding the essential spirit of the Promise. Scouting in the UK is firmly committed to co-education so boys and girls can meet the aims of Scouting through one programme. In May 2009, the TV Adventurer Bear Grylls became the UK’s tenth Chief Scout, and in 2007 we celebrated the first 100 years of Scouting in spectacular style !.
