Silchester Scouts

Scouting is the largest youth movement in the world and our organisation is co-educational. Everything we do is open to both boys and girls.

Silchester Scout District is situated north of Basingstoke near to the Hampshire / Berkshire border and was formed in 1966. The district consists of six Scout Groups that provide Scouting for young people in the towns, villages and rural areas around Baughurst, Bramley, Headley, Kingsclere, Pamber Heath and Tadley.

We are part of the Scout Association, which provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people (boys and girls) aged 6-25 across the UK. Internationally, we have over 28 million young people enjoying the benefits of Scouting across 216 countries.

Personal development means promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are 'learning by doing,' when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.

The Silchester District has a combined membership of over 350 young people consisting of boys and girls aged from 6 to 18 years of age. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts belong to the six local Scout Groups and a District-wide Explorer Scout unit runs for young people between 14 and 18 years of age.

Scouting is not just fun for young people. Adults play key roles in enabling the adventure!

We are always keen to recruit new volunteers to help develop our Scouting opportunities. Adults play all kinds of roles, from uniformed leaders and assistants, to District / Group Officers or as informal volunteers.

It really is great fun and there is a recognised training scheme to develop adults who work with young people.
